- January 1
– Taiwan Railways Administration is set to be incorporated.[1] After this date, it will now be replaced by Taiwan Railway Corporation Limited.[2]
– BNSF is set to take over operations of Montana Rail Link after buying out the remainder of the lease agreement which was set to expire in 2047.[3]
– São Paulo Metro Line 17 expected to start operation.[4]
March
March 24 – Extension of the Kita-Osaka Kyuko Railway to Minō-Semba-Handaimae station and Minō-Kayano station.[5]
– Opening of Agra Metro.[6]- – Opening of Bhoj Metro.[7]
– Line 4 of SITEUR opening.[8]- – Line FA of the Ferrocarril Transístmico, which will open in December 2023 from Coatzacoalcos to Roberto Ayala, will be extended to Palenque.[9]
– Opening of Phase 1 of the Diagonal extension of the Barcelona Tram.[10]
– Scheduled MRT Orange Line opening.[11]- – The first section of the 2 Line of the Link light rail system in Seattle is expected to begin service, connecting the suburbs of Bellevue and Redmond. It is the third line in the light rail system and is expected to be extended to Seattle the following year.[12]

- September 14 – passenger service on the Ixtepec–Ciudad Hidalgo Line, also called Line K of the Ferrocarril Transístmico, is scheduled to begin[14]
