At the National Census in 2006, the region's population (as a part of the former Sarchehan District of Bavanat County) was 8,160 in 2,018 households.[5] The following census in 2011 counted 9,663 people in 2,574 households.[6] At the latest census in 2016, there were 10,788 inhabitants in 3,415 households.[2]

After the census, the district was separated from the county in the establishment of Sarchehan County and divided into the Central District containing Tujerdi Rural District, Sarchehan Rural District, and the cities of Hesami and the new capital, Korehi; and Bagh Safa District containing Bagh Safa Rural District and the new Arzhang Rural District.[3] The county was further divided later when Tujerdi Rural District was separated from the Central District to establish Tujerdi District, which was divided into two rural districts including the new Marvashkan Rural District. At the same time, Hesami Rural District was established in the Central District and the capital of the county was moved from Korehi to Hesami.[4]
