Collines of Burundi

The Communes of Burundi are divided into 2,639 collines. Colline means "hill" in French, one of the three official languages of the country. The collines are listed below, by commune:

Because of climate change, a report of March 28, 2023 states that the country is losing its capital base at an alarming rate, in a 2017 report of Country Environmental Analysis (CEA) the country loses 1.7% of its GDP in land degradation through soil erosion. However, a report of year 2020, states that Burundi loses 5.2% of area due to land degradation. The National Development Plan aims to restore the 16% degraded lands to the former ones, it is also predicted that by 2050 the country's land degradation will increase by 200%, including those 118 collines that have been identified as the country's hotspots.[1]
