Darrang College, sometimes referred to at times as the Nalanda of the North Bank, is a college in Tezpur in the Indian state of Assam. It was started in July 1945 with 8 teachers and 112 students in the roll.It is permanently affiliated to Gauhati University.

Darrang College offers bachelor's degrees in arts, Commerce & Science[1] from Gauhati University and operates 24 departments.

History

The college started in July 1945 with 8 teachers and 112 students.It affiliated to Gauhati University in 1953.

Kamakhya Prasad Tripathy, a veteran freedom fighter and trade union leader, was the founding principal. Padmanath Borgohain, who also founded the Assam Sahitya Sabha, was the founding president of Darrang College

Initially, classes were held at the bungalow of Arnaldo Duchi, an Italian man who sold the property to the college.

Subsequently, the college moved for nearly two years to the American Base Hospital campus at Mission Chariali, then to the Dak bungalow. It adopted the present site in October 1951.

The Dalai Lama visited in 1959, followed by Smt. Indira Gandhi in 1963.
