Gavkhuni-ye Shomali Rural District (Persian: دهستان گاوخونی شمالی), formerly Gavkhuni Rural District, is in the Central District of Varzaneh County, Isfahan province, Iran. Its capital is the village of Qurtan.[3]

At the National Census of 2006, its population (as a part of the former Bon Rud District of Isfahan County) was 6,833 in 1,760 households.[4] There were 7,208 inhabitants in 2,074 households at the following census of 2011.[5] At the most recent census of 2016, the population of the rural district was 7,930 in 2,400 households. The largest of its 24 villages was Oshkohran, with 1,463 people.[2]

In 2021, Bon Rud District was separated from Isfahan County to become Varzaneh County and divided into two districts and four rural districts. The city of Varzaneh was designated as its capital.[3]
