Karkheh County

Karkheh County (Persian: شهرستان کرخه) is in Khuzestan province, Iran. Its capital is the city of Alvan.

At the 2006 census, the region's population (as Shavur District of Shush County) was 62,617 in 9,841 households.[3] The following census in 2011 counted 69,051 people in 15,291 households.[4] At the 2016 census, there were 70,071 in 18,263 households.[2]

In September 2019, the district was separated from the county, divided into two districts of two rural districts each and two cities (Alvan as the capital and Shavur), and elevated to the status of the new Karkheh County.[5]
