Khanafereh

Khanafereh (Persian: خنافره), formerly Khorusi-ye Jonubi (خروسي جنوبي), also Romanized as Khorūsī-ye Jonūbī,[3] is a city in, and the capital of, Khanafereh District of Shadegan County, Khuzestan province, Iran.

At the 2006 census, its population was 3,759 in 609 households, when it was the village of Khorusi-ye Jonubi in the former Khanafereh Rural District of the Central District.[4] The following census in 2011 counted 3,633 people in 831 households, by which time the village was transferred to Salami Rural District in the newly established Khanafereh District.[5] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 3,853 people in 958 households,[2] when the village had been elevated to the status of a city and renamed Khanafereh.[6]
