This is a list of the highest elevation communities in the United States. This list includes both incorporated municipalities and census-designated places. This list includes 82 towns in Colorado, eight towns in New Mexico, five towns in Wyoming, four towns in Utah, two towns in Arizona, and one town in California. Ten of these towns are located in Boulder County, Colorado and another ten towns are located in Clear Creek County, Colorado.

A second list includes the highest elevation towns in the United States east of the Mississippi River.

  6. On November 4, 2014, the property owners of Carbonate, Colorado voted to reactivate the town government despite having no year-round residents since the 1890 United States Census.[2]
  7. Located at an elevation of 10,361 feet (3,158 m), the Town of Alma, Colorado has been the highest elevation populated municipality in the United States since 1890.
