Matrix Fight Night

Matrix Fight Night is an Indian professional Mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion and the brainchild of Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff, his mother Ayesha Shroff,[2] and sister Krishna Shroff. The promotion was founded in 2019 and has its headquarters in Mumbai, Maharashtra.[3]

The shroff family also owns a chain of MMA gyms called MMA Matrix.[4]

Matrix Fight Night has hosted 12[5] premium fight nights as on date, featuring fighters from India and abroad.

Their thirteenth international fight night is scheduled for the 28th of October, 2023 and features 12 fights.[6]

MFN has been instrumental in producing several MMA stars including Anshul Jubli,[7] Pawan Maan Singh,[8] Vikas Singh Ruhil,[9] Puja Tomar,[10] and many others.

History

Matrix Fight Night was founded in 2019 by the Shroff family. The shroffs joined forces to establish a premium MMA promotion aimed to improve and shape Mixed Martial Arts in South Asia & Southeast Asia.

Matrix Fight Night kickstarted with their debut event (MFN 1) in Mumbai on the 12th of March 2019. The event was held at NSCI Dome and featured 7 professional fights.[11]

Anshul Jubli made his professional MMA debut at MFN 2, which was held on the 29th of June 2019 in New Delhi. Anshul's undefeated streak (5–0) at MFN earned him the opportunity to fight in the lightweight division of Road to UFC Season 1. Anshul won the prestigious tournament after beating Jeak Saragih of Indonesia in the finals, thus securing the UFC contract.[12]

MFN expanded globally with MFN 4, choosing Dubai as their international fight capital.[13][14] Three consecutive editions of Matrix Fight Night, from MFN 4 to MFN 6,[15] were hosted in Dubai. Despite the pandemic, MFN managed to organize events with the assistance of the Dubai Sports Council.

MFN 6 (Anshul Vs Mahmoudiyan)[16] witnessed the first foreign fighter at Matrix Fight Night, and there has been no stopping since. Fighters from Afghanistan (Abdul Azim Badakshi),[17] Brazil (Fabricio Oliveira, Marcelo Guarilha), Serbia (Đorđe Stojanović),[18] Philippines (Mary June Buna), Pakistan (Uloomi Karim), Egypt (Mohamed Gamal), United Kingdom (Richard Mearns), United States (Bi Nguyen) and Kyrgyzstan (Atabek Abdimitalipov, Aziz Satybaldiev, Darkhanbek Ergeshev) have competed at MFN to date..

In late-2022, Matrix Fight Night announced its partnership with the OTT giant Disney+Hotstar.[19][20] MFN events are exclusively streamed live in India on Disney+Hotstar.[21]

Format

Matrix Fight Night has two formats: International Fight Night and MFN Contenders. International Fight Night showcases the best talent from India and abroad, while MFN Contenders serves as a feeder event for International Fight Night.

The first MFN Contenders event took place in September 2022 in Hyderabad. The three-day event witnessed over 400 fighters competing in various weight categories to earn the MFN Contract. Several promising fighters from this feeder event have achieved great success at the International Fight Night. Notable names include Dinesh Naorem (Manipur), Neeraj Panghal (Haryana) and Maridin Newmai (Nagaland).

MFN 13 is scheduled for the 28th of October 2023 in Noida Indoor Stadium, Noida. The event features 12 bouts.[25]
