The Masks of the Devil is a lost[1] 1928 American drama silent film directed by Victor Sjöström and written by Marian Ainslee, Ruth Cummings, Svend Gade and Frances Marion. The film stars John Gilbert, Alma Rubens, Theodore Roberts, Frank Reicher and Eva von Berne. The film was released on November 17, 1928, by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.[2][3]

Plot


Baron Reiner is handsome yet unscrupulous aristocrat. He becomes infatuated with a young and innocent schoolgirl. The problem is, she is engaged to his best friend, Manfred. To seduce her and steal her from his friend, Reiner finances an oceanographic expedition that takes his friend away for months. Manfred returns and duels with Reiner where he injures the man. Reiner recovers and steals the young girl for his own. [4]
