- Holotype: NMNZ CR 3136, ♀.
- Type locality: Northwest corner of Ho Ho Bay, The Snares, 48°07'S 166°36'E, clumps ofcrustose coralline algae, 14 m, G. D. Fenwick, 19 December 1976, SA-3459.
- Etymology: The specific name refers to the large calcareous tubercles on the body of the adult.
