Tribus: Ancistrini
Genus: Ancistrus
Species: Ancistrus vericaucanus
Name
Ancistrus vericaucanus Taphorn et al., 2013
Type locality: Colombia, Departamento Valle del Cauca, Cauca River drainage, Finca Santa Barbara, río La Vieja, 1278 m asl, 4.59222°, -75.778667° .
Etymology: The specific epithet vericaucanus is a combination of the Latin veri (= true), and caucanus, which refers to Ancistrus caucanus, a species thought originally (but apparently mistakenly), to be from the Cauca River of northern Colombia. As it turns out, Ancistrus caucanus occurs in the Magdalena River drainage, not in the Cauca. Ancistrus vericaucanus then, is the true inhabitant of the Cauca River streams, hence the name vericaucanus.
