Name

Barbus devosi Banyankimbona, Vreven & Snoeks, 2012

Holotype: MRAC B0-3-P-13. Paratypes: MRAC B1-3-P-17 (1), B0-3-P-14-17 (2), B1-3-P-18 (1), 87-49-P-1 (1), 91-30-P-546-547 (2), B1-3-P-13-14 (2), 91-62-P-1751 (1), 91-62-P-1753 (1).

Type locality: Burundi, Rutana Province, Malagarazi basin, Mazimero River, bridge on road from Rutana to Giharo, 3°53'05"S, 30°11'06"E.

Etymology: The species is named in honour of the late Luc (Tuur) De Vos, an outstanding Belgian ichthyologist and dear colleague and friend of the authors, in recognition of his remarkable collecting efforts and scientific determination, which led us to our current knowledge of the Malagarazi fish fauna. He was the first to recognise the species described here as new to science.
