Type locality: Nyakabuye, Rubyiro River, Ruzizi basin, near its junction with River Ntandwe, Rwanda, 2°34'S, 29°02'E .
Etymology: The specific name asymetricaudalis, from the Grek asymmetros (= without symmetry), and Latin cauda (= tail) refers to the caudal fin of this species, which has in males a longer upper lobe.
