Type: J. Banks (1769; syntype), A. Cunningham (1826; syntype: K -K000772140) and R. Cunningham (1834; syntype); 'Type' collected by A. Cunningham: BR -BR0000005576791 [under the number 68]; possible type collected by Cunningham: NY-NY00131134.
Type locality: New Zealand. Northern Island:
- Banks: Sandy rocks on the Hokianga, near the immediate shore.
- A. Cunningham (and R. Cunningham?): Sea coast, on the east side, opposite the Cavallos Isles.
