Coprosma rubra Petrie, Trans. & Proc. New Zealand Inst. 17: 269 (1885)
- Typus: D. Petrie s.n. (male; lectotypus: WELT SP048848(/A, /B, /C, /D, /E)); see Oliver (1935: 204).
- Type locality: New Zealand. South Island: Dunedin, Leith Valley.

- Note: the corresponding specimen is housed there as K000772143, but it lacks any type indication apart from a note 'Sent to WRB Oliver 1928'.
- Type locality: [New Zealand. North Island:] Bay of Islands, east coast, and [South Island:] Otago.
- 'type' sensu Oliver: east coast, Pahaoa River.
- Typus: W. Colenso 1976 (K) fide Oliver (1935: 84).
