Type locality: Chagos Archipelago, Peros Banhos Atoll, Isle Poule/Isle Montparte, 5°24’25”S, 70°45’58”E , 20 m depth.
Etymology: The specific name latifasciata from the Latin latus (= side), and fasciatus (= banded), was given in reference to the broad dark bars dorsally on the body.
