Name

Cyclocheilichthys janthochir (Bleeker, 1854)

Syntypes: BMNH 1866.5.2.145 (1); RMNH 4959 (1).

Type locality: Kapuas River, Pontianak, Borneo, Indonesia.

Etymology: The specific name is a combination of jantho (Latinized from the Greek ianthinus for violet) and chir, a part from cheiros, meaning hand/fin, for the violet coloured pectoral fin of the species (see: ETYFish Project).
