- Type locality: VENEZUELA: Aragua, Rancho Grande Biological Station, "La Cumbre", 1450m, 10°21’N, 67°41’W, berlese leaf litter.
- Holotype: KSEM, ♂, 28.II.1995, R. Brooks #020.
- Etymology: Because of two different shapes of elytra I name this species "variipennis" (Lat. = with different shapes of elytra).
