- Holotype: ESUW, ♀, 20.xi.86–10.i.1987, I.D. Gauld & D. Janzen.
- Type locality: COSTA RICA: Guanacaste, Santa Rosa Nat. Park 300m, ex. Malaise trap, Site # BH-9-0.
- Etymology: The species name is from the Greek rhabdotos meaning striped in reference to the brown stripe on the mesosoma.
