Type locality: Sagaminada Sea off Misaki, Miura City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Honshu Island, Japan (35°7.815’N, 139°34.371’E–35°7.572’N, 139°34.108’E), 96.4–100 m depth.

Etymology: The specific name is derived from the Latin vermiculate (wavy lines or markings resembling worm form or tracks), in reference to the shape of the body markings on the only-known specimen.
