Holotype: BMNH 1977.1.11.419. [Paratypes: BMNH 1977.1.11.420-23 (4); MFRU (10, 4 lots); MRAC 77-02-P-1-2 (2), 77-02-P-3-4 (2); QVMS 3757 (2); SAIAB (formerly RUSI) 916 (2); USNM 216598-99 (2, 2)].

Type locality: Lake Malawi [Lake Nyasa], southeastern Africa, 14°19'S, 35°11'E, depth 12 fathoms.
