Type locality: CHINA, Yunnan: Menglun Town: Xishuangbanna Botanical Garden, 21°55.035'N, 101°16.500'E, elevation ca 558 m, 22 July 2007, primary tropical seasonal rain forest, fogging, G. Zheng.
Etymology: This specific name describes the softness and fragility of this species. The Latin origin is ‘hapalus’ meaning ‘delicate and tender’; adjective.
