Opistognathus trimaculatus Hiramatsu & Endo, 2013

  • Holotype: NSMT-P 111154 (formerly BSKU 41806).
  • Paratype: BSKU 37494.

Type locality: off Kochi City, central Tosa Bay, otter trawl, R/V Kotaka-maru, about 150 m depth.

Etymology: The species name trimaculatus is derived from the Latin tri (= three), and macula (= spot), in reference to the three blotches on the dorsal fin.
