- Holotype: MZFC 22249 (original number JCBH 115), adult ♂, collected by Jean Cristian Blancas Hernandez on 5 February 2007.
- Type locality: “La Llave, El Balcón, Ajuchitan del Progreso, Guerrero, México (17°37’21.9’’ N, 100°34’29.3’’ W) at 1831 m”.
- Etymology: The name is a patronym honoring Adrian Nieto Montes de Oca for his research on the herpetofauna of México, specifically with taxa from the families Polychrotidae, Teiidae, and Scincidae.
