Protereunetes Berlese, 1923

Gender

  • Masculine

Type species

Notes

  • Berlese, (1923) erected the subgenus Protereunetes in his genus Micrereunetes.
  • Thor & Willmann (1941) raised Protereunetes to full genus rank and (falsely) included this genus in the Eupodidae. This opinion was repeated by Strandtmann (1971)
  • Fain (1964) worked on the typical series deposited in the Acarotheca of Florence and showed that Protereunetes actually belong to the Ereynetidae and not to the Eupodidae as previously stated.
  • Fain (1964: 104) synonymyzed Protereunetes with Ereynetes.
  • Subsequently, Fain & Camerik (1994) erected the genus Neoprotereunetes to accommodate eupodid mites falsely named Protereunetes.
