κασσίτερος
Ancient Greek
Alternative forms
- καττίτερος (kattíteros) – Attic
Etymology
An Elamite origin has been suggested but, according to Beekes, the group "σσ/ττ" is typically Pre-Greek, so the word would have come from Greece or Western Anatolia, like μόλυβδος (mólubdos, “lead”).
