χόριον
Ancient Greek
Etymology
Unexplained. Maybe from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰer-, the same root of χορδή (khordḗ, “guts, intestine”) and Latin hernia (“protruded viscus”). However, Beekes finds this proposal unconvincing.
