From Proto-Iranian *dwā́r, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dʰwā́r, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰwṓr. Cognate with Sanskrit द्वार् (dvā́r), Persian در (dar), Hindustani द्वार (dvār) / دوار (dvār), English door, German Tür, Armenian դուռ (duṙ), Irish doras and Russian дверь (dverʹ).
