Inherited from Proto-Slavic *kъsьnъ. Cognate with Church Slavonic късьнъ (kŭsĭnŭ, “slow, late”), Bulgarian къ́сно (kǎ́sno, “late”), Serbo-Croatian ка̏сно (“late”), Slovene kəsȃn (“careless, slow, late”) (feminine kəsnà), also kəsə̀n. Further cognate with Lithuanian kùšlas (“frail, wretched”) (also kušlùs), Latvian kusls (“weak, small and tender”), Latvian kust (“to tire”) (1sg. kùstu, 1sg. past kusu), Old Prussian ucka-kuslaisin (“the weakest”, acc. sg.).
