From Ottoman Turkish [script needed] (sevda) (compare Turkish sevda (“love”)), from Arabic سَوْدَاء (sawdāʾ, “black bile”). Akin to севда̀лӣнка, севда̀лија, севда̀лук, сѐвди, сѐвдисати.
