скаредный
Russian
Etymology
From ска́ред (skáred) + -ный (-nyj), from Proto-Slavic *skarędъ. Cognates include Old Church Slavonic скарѧдь (skarędĭ), Czech škareda and Polish skarady.
Vasmer also suspects relation with Sanskrit अवस्कर (avaskara, “trash, ordure”), Ancient Greek σκῶρ (skôr, “dung”), and Proto-Germanic *skarną (“filth, dung”) (whence English skarn and sharn), which would make it derive from Proto-Indo-European *sóḱr̥ (“excrement, dung”)
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): [ˈskarʲɪdnɨj]
