- to assure (something إِلَى (ʾilā) to somebody = assure somebody of something)
- to confirm (a view, report, fact, etc.)
- to corroborate (something)
- to confirm, ratify (an agreement, engagement, etc.)
- to emphasize, to stress (عَلَى (ʿalā) something, أَنَّ (ʾanna) that ...)
- to bind firmly (a horse's or camel's saddle)

According to Lane, the more correct verb to use in place of this one is وَكَّدَ (wakkada), with similar meanings.
