Related to the verb أَنُثَ (ʾanuṯa, “to be feminine”). Has the form of a feminine elative. Cognate with Ugaritic 𐎀𐎘𐎚 (aṯt, “wife”), Aramaic ܐܢܬܬܐ (antatā, “wife”), Akkadian 𒁮 (aššatu, “wife”).
