From Old Persian 𐎲𐎠𐏀𐎢 (bāzu). Cognate with Avestan 𐬠𐬁𐬰𐬬𐬋 (bāzvō), Sanskrit बाहु (bāhu), Ancient Greek πῆχυς (pêkhus, “forearm”). Also akin to Old Armenian բազուկ (bazuk), an Iranian borrowing.
