Arabic
Etymology
Developed parallel with لَدُن (ladun) with the root د ء ء (d-ʾ-ʾ). Derived from لَ (la, “to, for”) + دَأ (daʾ), variant of دَأدَأ (“to run swiftly; to follow immediately right after ones footsteps, to be close behind, to be near before someone”). Hence rendering the sense, to be right before them, to be in their presence, immediately at their person, nearly occupying the same location, as close as one can get.
