Etymology
From Middle Persian wls (wars, “hair”), from Proto-Indo-European. Cognate with Sanskrit वल्श (válśa, “twig, sprout”) and Proto-Slavic *volsъ (“hair”). Akin to Old Armenian վարս (vars) and վարշամակ (varšamak), Iranian borrowings.
