Etymology

From [script needed] (*δast-partar), a compound of ܕܣܛ (δst /*δast-/, hand), on which see دست (dast), and [script needed] (prtr- /*partar-/, to dry up, wipe off), the latter ultimately composed of the Proto-Iranian preverb *pari- and the verbal root *tarH- (to rub, wipe (?)) from Proto-Indo-European *terh₁- (to rub).
