Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *karáwti, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *kr̥náwti, from Proto-Indo-European *kʷr̥-néw-ti ~ *kʷr̥-nw-énti, from *kʷer- (“to do, make”). An innovation from Vedic Sanskrit कृणोति (kṛṇóti) (according to Lubotsky, kr̥ṇóti > *kr̥róti > karóti) because its "regular" derivation from Proto-Indo-European *kʷor-éw-ti is not permissible.
