Borrowed from Persian دل (del), from Proto-Iranian *ĵŕ̥dayam, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ȷ́ʰŕ̥dayam. Cognate with Avestan 𐬰𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬛𐬁 (zərədā), Sanskrit हृदय (hṛ́daya).
Doublet of हृदय (hŕday).
