From Old Marathi 𑘢𑘻𑘨 (pora), from Sanskrit पोत (pota, “young of animal or plant”). Cognate with Gujarati પોરિયું (poriyũ), Assamese পোৱালী (püali).
Usage notes
Unlike the word मूल (mūl), the word पोर (por) implies a low age and does not have the secondary meaning of son or daughter.
