Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *bʰáwati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *bʰáwati, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰéwH-e-ti, from *bʰuH- (“to appear, become, rise up”). Cognate with Ancient Greek φύω (phúō), Avestan 𐬠𐬎 (bu), Latin fui, Old English beon (whence English be).
