From *rać- (“to bind, tie”), whence also Sanskrit रश्मि (raśmí), रशना (raśanā́). Cognate with Middle Persian lsn' (rasan), Persian رسن (rasan). Compare also Old Armenian առասան (aṙasan), an Iranian borrowing.
