Cognate with Avestan 𐬵𐬀𐬉𐬙𐬎 (haētu, “dam, bridge”), Ossetian хид (xid, “bridge”), Latin saeta, Old High German seid (“cord”), Old Norse seior, Czech sit (“net”), Old Church Slavonic сеть (setĭ, “trap, snare”), Lithuanian sietas (“tie”).
