Borrowed, by way of English rickshaw, ricksha, from Japanese 力車 (rikisha), a shortening of 人力車 (じんりきしゃ jinrikisha), from Middle Chinese 人力 (MC ȵiɪn lɨk̚, “human power”) + 車 (MC kɨʌ, t͡ɕʰia, “cart”).
