1. Thai script form of guṇa

From Pali guṇa (“cord; fibre; quality”) or from Sanskrit गुण (guṇa, “quality, feature, attribute; merit, virtue; etc”); probably via Old Khmer guṇa (“attribute; excellence; interest; merit; property; quality; supernatural power; virtue”). Cognate with Khmer គុណ (kun); Old Javanese guṇa.

5. (พระ~) favour; kindness.
6. morality; virtue.
7. a noble title given to an unmarried woman who has been granted the royal decoration of Chula Chom Klao from the fourth class to the second class.
8. (colloquial) an honorific prefixed to a name, title, etc.

• (noble title): If married, the title คุณหญิง (kun-yǐng) is used. As for a member of the special second class or higher, the title ท่านผู้หญิง (tân-pûu-yǐng) is used, irrespective of the marital status.
