  1. (transitive) To dispatch as a courier
  2. (transitive) To consign one to some task, requisition, press into service
    • New Testament, The Gospel of Mark 15:21:
      Καὶ ἀγγαρεύουσι παράγοντά τινα Σίμωνα Κυρηναῖον [] ἵνα ἄρῃ τὸν σταυρὸν αὐτοῦ.
      Kaì angareúousi parágontá tina Símōna Kurēnaîon [] hína árēi tòn stauròn autoû.
      And they consigned some passerby, Simon the Cyrenian [] to carry his cross.
