Etymology

First attested in the Beonyeok nogeoldae (飜譯老乞大 / 번역노걸대), 1517, as Middle Korean ᄃᆞᆫ녀오다 (Yale: tonnyewota). From 다녀 (danyeo), infinitive form of 다니다 (danida, “to go there and back”) + 오다 (oda, “to come”).
