Etymology
Sino-Vietnamese word from 洲歐, composed of 洲 (“continent”) and 歐 (“Europe”). Borrowed from Chinese 歐洲, but cast in Vietnamese word order, with the noun preceding the modifier. Usage of this term has almost completely replaced usage of the direct loan Âu châu (歐洲) in Vietnam.

- (Hà Nội) IPA(key): [t͡ɕəw˧˧ ʔəw˧˧]
- (Huế) IPA(key): [t͡ɕəw˧˧ ʔəw˧˧]
- (Hồ Chí Minh City) IPA(key): [cəw˧˧ ʔəw˧˧]
Usage notes
