Initialism of Helyiérdekű Vasút (“Railway of Local Interest”), coined in 1887 as part of the name Budapesti Helyiérdekű Vasutak Rt. Today it is officially named Budapesti Helyiérdekű Vasút, from budapesti (“of/from Budapest”) + helyi (“local”) + érdekű (“of …… interest”) + vasút (“railway”).
